Boys Varsity Baseball Highlights On Saturday, April 3, the North Collins Boy's Varsity baseball team opened up the defense of their Section VI Championship with an offensive explosion and an emphatic statement with a 32-3 drubbing of Clymer. In 5 innings of work, North Collins pounded out 20 hits and scored all of their runs in the 1st 3 innings. The offense had several stars including: Vinny Sherman - 2 HR's (one a grand slam) and 6 RBIs. Mitchell Williams, 5 innings pitched with 8 strikeouts. He also added 3 hits, 5 RBI's including a Grand Slam as well. Nick Gier collected 2 hits and a 3 run HR. Chris Zymowski & Kyle Sherman (triple) each added 3 hits while Matt Gier (triple) and Clayton Cerne each collected 2 hits. NC sent 32 hitters to the plate in the 3rd inning and plated 16 runs to the hit parade.
On Monday, April 12, the BV baseball team improved their record to 2-1 with a come from behind 10-7 victory over visiting Silver Creek. NC was the benefactor of 12 walks in the contest and put the pressure on with 12 stolen bases. NC scored 5 runs in the 5th to capture the lead for good. Vinny Sherman led a very quiet offensive output with 2 hits and 3 Rbi's, including a 2 rbi double in the 5 run fifth. NC was led by their pitching staff where Nick Gier pitched the 1st 4 innings and then giving way to his cousin Matt Gier, who earned the win in 3 innings of shutout relief. They collectively walked only 3 batters all day and that proved to be the difference as we were severely out hit. Clayton Cerne collected a triple while Chris Zymowski and Kyle Sherman each added Rbi singles for NC. NC travels to West Valley this afternoon for an important league matchup. Good luck guys!
On Tuesday, April 13th the BV baseball team improved their overall record to 3-1 and 2-0 in league play with a 15-2 victory at league rival West Valley. Mitchell Willams was very effective on the mound earning his 2nd win in as many starts. He pitched a complete game while walking only 2 batters and striking out 4. NC played great defense all day playing their 1st error free game of the season. Mitchell also had a great day at the plate collecting 4 hits and 2 rbi's while Casey Bucco collected 3 hits and 4 Rbi's including a 2 run HR blast in the top of the 1st to spark NC. Clayton Cerne added an Rbi triple and a big 2 rbi single with 2 outs in the 5th while Kyle Sherman also collected 2 hits and chipped in a clutch 2 out rbi double for NC in the 5th to break the game open. Nick Gier, Stevie Ray Foit, Chris Zymowski, Vinny Sherman and Brett Martin all collected hits for NC to have each starter collect at least one hit for the day.
Last evening,Tuesday, April 27th, the NC Boys Varsity baseball team improved to 4-0 in league play with a 21-2 victory at Ripley. Matthew Gier pitched a complete game striking out 12 batters, scattering 5 hits and walking 4 to earn his 2nd win on the mound for NC. Stevie Ray Foit led the offense with 4 hits and 3 Rbi's while Vinny Sherman connected for a 2 run bomb and collected 4 Rbi's on the day. Kyle Sherman, Casey Bucco, Mitchell Williams, Chris Zymowski and Clayton Cerne each collected 2 hits for the surging attack.
On Friday, April 30th, the BV baseball team defeated the #2 state ranked Pine Valley by a final score of 5-2. The win keeps NC undefeated in league play at 5-0 and pushes us to 6-1 overall. Mitchell Williams was superb on the mound in picking up his 4th win in as many starts. He struck out 7 batters walked none and allowed only 3 hits on the day. A strong defensive performance including several assists by Vinny Sherman keyed the Eagle Victory. Casey Bucco nailed a triple while collecting 2 hits and an RBI. Stevie Ray Foit added 2 hits, scored 2 runs and added an RBI, while Mitchell Williams collected an RBI single. Brett Martin and Kyle Sherman collected the other NC hits. NC has 4 home league games in a row this week~ today, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and will be a big week to try to remain undefeated in league play. Come on out and catch a game. Last evening-Monday, 5/3/10, the Boy's Varsity baseball team remained perfect in league play with a 19-1 victory over visiting Forestville. The win moves NC to 7-1 overall and 6-0 in league play. Kyle Sherman was stellar on the mound for NC earning his 1st Varsity victory pitching 6 strong innings, walking only 2 batters and giving up the only unearned run. Nick Gier closed out the game with a perfect 3 strikeouts to lock it up. Casey Bucco crushed the ball at the plate with a 2 run HR and a Triple. He reached base every time and scored 4 runs for NC. Kyle Sherman added a 3 run HR of his own and Vinny Sherman belted a 2 run HR and a triple as well for NC. Brett Martin continued his solid play with 2 hits and 2 RBI’s while Mitchell Williams belted a 3 run double. Mitchell Phillips collected his 1st varsity RBI driving in Nick Gier in the 6th. NC plays home again today vs. Franklinville. Game time is 4:30.
Last evening, Tuesday, May 4th, the Boy's Varsity baseball team won their 7th straight ball game and remained perfect in league play at 7-0 with a 25-3 victory over visiting Franklinville. Matt Gier pitched a complete game on the mound for NC earning his 3rd win of the season scattering 4 hits and walking 4. Mitchell Williams had a 5 hit performance at the plate collecting 5 Rbi's and scoring 4 runs. Kyle Sherman collected 3 hits and scored 4 times while Vinny Sherman, Casey Bucco, Nick Gier and Clayton Cerne also collected 3 hits each. Felipe Floriano collected his 1st varsity hit and Andy Dole collected an Rbi single as NC scored 19 runs in the 1st 2 innings. The team plays their 3rd of 4 home games in a row this afternoon as Panama comes to town for another league contest. Game time is 5pm. Good luck guys!
Last evening, Monday, May 10th, the BV baseball team improved to 11-1 and 10-0 in league play with a lackluster 6-3 victory over Forestville. Matt Gier (5 innings) earned a no-decision thru 5 allowing only one earned run. Kyle Sherman came in the 6th and allowed no runs while striking out 4 batters to earn the win. NC was trailing 3-0 after 4 innings and somehow found a way to put up 3 runs in the 5th and 3 more in the 6th to secure the win. NC was held to only 4 hits and Brett Martin had 2 of those hits and scored 2 of our runs. Mitchell Williams and Kyle collected the other singles for NC who plays away at Brocton today for yet another league contest. Good Luck guys!
NC wins a thriller! Last evening the BV baseball team escaped an extra inning battle against Ellicottville to remain undefeated in league play at 11-0. NC is 12-1 overall and is off until Monday. Mitchell Williams (now 6-0) pitched a complete game for NC striking out 10 batters along the way. After leading 7-3 after 6 innings, Ellicottville rallied for 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th after having 2 outs and nobody on, they were fueled by a 3 Rbi triple by their #4 Hitter. He tried to stretch the triple into a HR and Mitch was alertly backing up an overthrow and was able to beat the runner to the plate for the 3rd out forcing extra innings. Both teams went scoreless in the 8th and then NC plated 3 in the 9th to earn the win. StevieRay Foit stole 2nd and 3rd on 2 straight pitches to allow Mitchell Williams to drive him in with a Sac Fly and the game winning Rbi. Nick Gier and Chris Zymowski singled next and both agressively stole 3rd and ended up scoring on overthrows from the catcher to add 2 insurance runs. Ellicottville's attempt to comeback in the bottom of the 9th was squashed by a unassisted Double Play hit to Vinny Sherman. Nick Gier collected 3 hits on the day, while Chris Zymowski ripped a 3 Rbi double in the 1st to get things started. Stevie Ray Foit collected 2 hits, 2 Rbis, stole 3 bases and scored 3 runs for NC. Great character win guys!
Last evening, Monday, May 17th, the BV Baseball team won their 13th consecutive game with a 9 to 5 win at Catt-Little Valley. NC is now 13-1 overall and 11-0 in league play. Nick Gier pitched outstanding in relief of Kyle Sherman to earn his first victory of the season. Nick pitched 5 solid innings, keeping NC in the game and allowed them to strike for 5 runs in the 7th inning to seal the victory. Nick struck out 7 batters along the way and walked only one. Kyle Sherman scored 3 times for NC and stole 2 bases while his brother, Vinny, drove him in for the tying run in the 7th. Casey Bucco then drove in Vinny Sherman for what turned out to be the game winning RBI. Chris Zymowski collected 2 hits and stole 2 bases for NC and Mitchell Williams added a single for the Eagles. The team travels to Maple Grove today for a key league matchup in their quest to remain undefeated in league play. Good luck guys!
Last evening, May 19, your BV baseball team won their 13th consecutive ball game with a 23-0 victory over Franklinville. Your Eagles are currently ranked #5 in the state for Class D teams and #9 for small schools in WNY. The win improves NC to 14-1 overall and 12-0 in league play which also marks their best start to a season on record. Matthew Gier pitched a complete game shutout surrendering 5 hits, striking out 7, walking only one and picking off 2 base runners for NC along the way. This was Matt's 4th win on the mound this year for the soaring Eagles. The Brazilian wonder, Felipe Floriano collected 2 hits for NC to highlight the evening. Mitchell Williams collected 2 hits, 4 RBI’s and a triple for NC while Vinny Sherman and Stevie Ray Foit both collected 2 hits and scored 5 times for the Eagles. Kyle Sherman collected 2 hits along with Nick Gier and his 4 RBI’s Casey Bucco added 2 hits and 4 RBI’s, Brett Martin collected 2 hits including an RBI triple and Chris Zymowski and Clayton Cerne each added RBI hits. NC travels to Brocton for a BIG league game this afternoon. Game time is 4:30. Good Luck Guys!!
Last evening the BV baseball team won their 14th game in a row with a crucial 3-1 victory at Brocton. NC improves to 15-1 overall and 13-0 in league play. Mitchell Williams earned his 7th win on the mound for the Eagles striking out 7 batters, allowing only a single unearned run and covering the sub-par offensive performance for NC. Casey Bucco came up with a HUGE 2 Rbi single in the top of the 6th after a 1-1 tie to score Kyle and Vinny Sherman and secure the victory. Casey was also a perfect 4-4 throwing out attempted base stealers to keep NC deadlocked at 1 through 6 innings. Casey had 2 hits on the day while Kyle Sherman added a single and scored 2 of our 3 runs. Your Eagles have 2 league games left and need to win both to secure the #1 seed for the playoffs. Today's game is at 5pm at home and Sat we are sceduled to go to Maple Grove for the deciding game. Keep it rolling guys!
Over the weekend your BV baseball team finished their regular season in style with a 17-3 win on Friday over Sherman and a 7-1 victory on Saturday over Maple Grove. The 2 wins end a regular season at 17-1 overall and 15-0 in league play and an amazing 16 game win streak that is still in progress. Your Eagles have finished as the #1 seed for the playoffs and will have a home playoff game this Thursday at 5pm. Hope to see you there!! On Friday Kyle Sherman picked up the win on the mound striking out 8 batters while Nick Gier provided 2 hits and a 2 RBI double and Clayton Cerne collected 2 hits and 3 RBI’s for NC. On Sat. we traveled to Maple Grove and pulled out an intense rain delayed victory by a score of 7-1. The game was tied 1-1 until we scored 3 times in the 6th and 3 more in the 7th to seal up the championship and #1 seed. Nick Gier was outstanding on the mound pitching 6 innings and allowing only one unearned run. Mitchell Williams pitched a perfect 7th to seal it for NC. Vinny Sherman was the offensive hero to come up with 3 hits and 3 RBI’s. 2 of those hits were clutch hits with 2 outs and intense noise from our opponent. Chris Zynowski, Clayton Cerne, & Nick Gier collected the other hits for NC. Great season guys now keep it rolling!!
On Thursday,May 27, the North Collins BV Baseball team opened up their playoff run with a 16-1 victory in their quarterfinal matchup against Forestville. The win extends our overall record to 18-1 and keeps our win streak alive at 17. Mitchell Williams won his 8th game on the mound and was stellar after surrendering a first inning run which he gave up after a walk, stolen base and a single. Mitchell allowed only 2 hits on the day and he struck out 9 along the way and walked only the one batter. The defense was spectacular behind Mitchell making several nice plays and playing error free ball. Stevie Ray Foit was the star on offense collecting a total of 3 hits which were highlited by 2 HR's and a Double. His 1st HR was a 2 out Grand Slam in the 4th innng to push NC up to a 7-1 lead. His 2nd blast came in the 6th and was a 3 run shot to erase any comeback toughts by Forestville. Stevie had 7 RBI's on the day, scored 3 runs and stole 2 bases for NC. Clayton Cerne collected 2 hits scored 3 runs and added 2 RBI's and 2 stolen bases to help out the cause. Brett Martin scored 3 times while Nick Gier, Vinny Sherman and Kyle Sherman each added RBI singles for NC.
