Help Our School and the Earth With the PTA's Recycling Program

About the Program

The PTA recently launched a recycling program in partnership with Think Recycle and Planet Green to collect and recycle used digital cameras, fax and printer cartridges, and cell phones. Here is a list of items we can collect: http://www.thinkrecycle.com/rebatelistfull.asp and we have collection boxes at the high school and elementary school as well as businesses throughout the community including the North Collins Library, ZJ's Pizzeria, Piz-A-Italia, The Observer offices (Dunkirk, NY), and The Post-Journal offices (Jamestown, NY).

The benefits to our school include a donation and for every twenty-four items collected, a tree is planted in our name. By collecting the cartridges and cell phones and sending them to a company who recycles them, they are kept out of landfills and reduce pollution and harmful chemicals in the environment.

The community can also earn our school money by clicking on this link and purchasing inkjet cartridges through Planet Green. The high quality ink cartridges are made in the U.S.A. and are shipped free nationwide with orders of $50 or more.

In 2009-10 over 493 items were recycled, diverting at least 386.14 pounds of waste, and earning $377.38 for our school. In 2008-09 we raised $807.48.

This is an important program and we are looking for parents and community members who can enlist their employers to participate by hosting a collection box or by collecting items to deposit at one of our collection boxes.
